If you are seeking out therapy services right now you are not alone. When searching you for therapy services you may come across words like “teletherapy” or “online therapy.” These therapy services are completed over video or phone. Teletherapy has been growing since March 2020 when COVID 19 started impacting our community.

Compared to in-person therapy teletherapy has some benefits. Some include: not needing to travel, having access to therapists across your state, and being able to socially distance. Our daily life has drastically changed and isolation can increase anxiety and depressive symptoms. Teletherapy is a great way to help ease these symptoms and socially distance.

Starting teletherapy can feel strange at first and it can feel awkward to talk to your therapist on your computer. It’s normal to feel unsure about trying something new. The good news is that for most people that awkward feeling goes away the more you connect with your therapist. Think you’re ready to take the next step to start teletherapy? Make sure you have access to the items below:

  • Private place to meet

  • Phone and or computer

  • Strong Internet and/or phone service

Your mental health during this stressful time is important and taking a leap to try teletherapy can be beneficial. Teletherapy also has the option to be temporary. After COVID, many therapists will be returning back to their office so check with that therapist if that is an option. So, give it a try and contact a therapist to see if they are offering teletherapy! Need help finding a therapist?
